How I Published My Novel: Part Five – I Worked on Something Else

This is how you survive the waiting:

You find something else to keep your mind busy. You finally read the books you’ve been adding to your Goodreads want-to-read list. You make a list of things to get done around the house that you’ve been putting off while you finished writing your book. You finally clean your office and organize the pile of papers and books that is your writing desk.

You start working on the next book.

This is how you survive the waiting.

This week was a horrible, awful, no good, very bad week. I got a lot of rejections back from agents. My day job was hella stressful. My mental health wasn’t super great. Etc., etc., etc.

But yesterday I made some good progress on my next book. Which means everything is going to be okay.

I’ve got the concept down and I’ve named the two POV characters and I’ve got a broad list of things that happen. I’m working with John (who is awesome), doing his Novel-in-a-Year series. And I’m growing. Because it took me like seven years, on and off, to finish the first book. So this will be an adventure.

And in the meantime, I’ll keep getting rejections and I’ll keep sending out queries. Because I want to be a professional, published writer.

And this is what we do.

How I Published My Novel is going to be an ongoing blog series detailing how I get this freaking thing published. I know, I know, you could probably tell that from the title… I’ve gotten to this point (and am still getting help from) the amazing John Adamus, who is my writing coach.

If you haven’t already, check out Part One of How I Finished My Novel, and start from the beginning of this story.
