Erin Lodes

So I started a blog kids. I’m planning on blogging about my writing adventures, and maybe some of my daily adventures, and probably there will be quite a few of my opinions so be warned.

My first blog post is going to be short and sweet. I’m working on my first novel. It started with the title In Her Bones, which is a title I still love. It started as my college senior honors project and has gone through plenty of edits. It’s spent a few years in a drawer waiting for me to become a good enough writer to write it.

I took it out recently and decided it was a disaster, as most first novels are. It had multiple POVs and they had no central plot thread connecting them, and really it was a lot of pretty sentences and hardly any real cohesive plot.

So I’m writing a different novel. A fun novel with fun characters that I have enjoyed fiddling away at, but that doesn’t feel so close to my soul. I’m working on plot. I’m trying hardcore plotting for the first time. I’m reading book after book after book on plotting and structure and I will figure this out. Because I am smart and determined and I am a writer.

I will get this book done. And then I’ll see where I am after that. Just climbing my mountain. One step at a time.
